tate-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno has instructed all her ministry officials to not hold any more meetings in hotels, partly as a way of reducing the ministry's spending following the recent increase in fuel prices.
'If you can, try to hold meetings at the office rather than at hotels. The same goes for regional business trips. We have to learn to do things more efficiently,' Rini said in a message to her staff on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to Rini, the move is also part of the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry's effort to increase efficiency and reduce spending by banning public servants and public institutions from holding meetings in hotels.
She added that such measures would keep production costs at bay.
'Starting from now, we will observe and determine whether certain enterprises are efficiently run or not. If it hasn't, we must improve them,' she said.
Part of her efficiency efforts for her ministry also included restrictions on ministry officials and workers traveling by business class on working trips.
Previously, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi suggested that by not holding meetings in hotels, the state would be able to save up to 20 percent of its budget.
He added that the new efficiency effort would be officially instated on Dec. 1, which would affect all ministries, provincial administrations and regencies. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
