An armed attack by soldiers on the Riau Islands Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters stems from the failure of leaders within the Bukit Barisan Military Command to control their personnel and to act sternly against insubordination in the past.
Dozens of members of the Army's 134 Tuah Sakti infantry ambushed and opened fire on the police headquarters in Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday afternoon after they had vandalized the building hours before.
The incident, which lasted for almost seven hours, killed one soldier, identified as First Pvt. Jack Marpaung, and injured a civilian, Kambani, who owns a nearby stall.
Your comments:
The problem as I've said so many times before is corruption! There is no leadership, no discipline because everybody is focused on filling their own pockets!
Look at this problem and how it started in the first place! Batam is a honey pot, lots of Singapore dollars and US dollars to be made! Nobody cares about national security, even the top brass in the police and Indonesian Military (TNI) don't know what to do and the first words out of their mouths are totally wrong!
There should never be reconciliation. There should be discipline and proper behavior. The police and TNI know that but that would hurt their income!

'In response to the incident, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has ordered the immediate removal of some members of the Military's 134 Tuah Sakti infantry battalion to prevent similar incidents from happening.'
Come on, Mr. President: one soldier is dead; one innocent civilian is severely injured; public assets have been vandalized or destroyed by public servants; civil servants have been involved in illegal businesses. This is not the first case of its kind.
The attorney general should now be at work; he must identify the perpetrators and the masterminds, and possibly the superior officers who let the mess happen and send all these people to receive judgment.

Where is the discipline, insubordination, defying order, rioting with deadly weapons, unlawful gathering and behavior unbefitting men of uniform?
The joke is that both wear the badges and symbols of Indonesia, and there they were trying to gun down one another. The commander has lost total control of the mutinous men.

It was not the first and for sure not the last such incident between the police and the Army in Indonesia.
The reputation of this country is once more going downhill. When will the government take serious action and put the ones responsible in a mental hospital or in jail?
Oh sorry, I forgot that you do not have and therefore do not need mental hospitals in Indonesia. So easy, tidak apa apa (it's OK) and so on and so on and on and on.
Just give every crazy person credit to buy a motorbike and the problems are solved. The new president is one step in the right direction but this is not enough.
It is time for every one of you to take some responsibility, so that at least your children may one day have a future and a better life.

We better sort this out before Indonesia comes under any kind of external threat.
An undisciplined military would not last five minutes.

Security personnel are obliged to ensure the safety of society but in this case they aren't doing it. It results in investors not wanting to come to Indonesia.

I don't think it's fair to blame Military Commander Maj. Gen. Winston Simanjuntak.
These are actions of enlisted ranks that are way below what a General should handle. I bet before this incident many of the past transgressions never went beyond the battalion commanders.
While from a PR standpoint they may make Winston the scapegoat, in reality disciplinary problems such as this usually fall on their platoon or company-level commanders.
I think the company or battalion commanders are quite complacent about weapon and live ammunition control, so that these soldiers have access to them earlier, even after evening roll call (the incident happened after a roll call).

A well-disciplined soldier has self-control and respects his superiors by obeying orders. For a group of soldiers to fire at policemen, it is a very serious offence even if the issue is an illicit protection racket: Training and re-training and building pride in being in uniform and revising and putting in place tough disciplinary proceedings and martial court.
Good welfare means police and soldiers do not need to offer protection services to shady businessmen.

I don't know what the top brass is thinking about.
Even if reconciliation takes place, the history book will remain tarnished and reflect the shame and absurdity of the Army and police : fist fights, shootings and more shootings. This is nonsense! It is clearly telling taxpayers that the commanders are incapable, weak leaders.

I don't think the little red dot is laughing at us since they are very closely linked to us and anything that affects us will ultimately affect them. But I do agreed that disciplinary action must be taken and, if necessary, all the way to the top of the two organizations.

Those soldiers ought to be court-martialed for insubordination and failure to follow military protocols, among other things. Indiscipline should not be allowed to persist in the ranks. Insubordinate soldiers are a danger to the military and the country they have sworn to
protect.

There is something fishy about this. I bet this is about money, territory and illegal stuff being smuggled into the country. This is a serious problem. There is nothing to be proud of. The top officers could be in charge. Mafia is everywhere.
