ational Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) commissioner Natalius Pigai said the commission had identified at least four human rights violations during the recent skirmish between the police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and soldiers from 134 Tuah Sakti infantry battalion in Batam, Riau Islands.
The statement was made during his visit to the scene of the incident.
He said the first violation was the shooting death of the soldier and the second the resident who was wounded by gunfire. The third violation, he added, was public endangerment and the fourth was the damage the incident did to property.
'The commission will write a report about it and send it to all related parties, including the National Police chief, the Indonesian Military (TNI) chief and the coordinating politics, law and security affairs minister. The report is expected to be completed next week,' he said.
He added that Komnas HAM would assist all parties to help prevent the incident from reoccurring.
Prior to Natalius' visit, a group of lawmakers from the House of Representatives' legal commission, led by Aziz Syamsuddin also to Batam traveled met with related parties.(dic)(++++)
