ppliances manufacturer PT Philips Indonesia says there is strong demand from the market for its healthcare products due to the implementation of the central government's Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan).
'Demand for medical equipment such as ultrasonography, MRI [magnetic resonance imaging], PET/CT scans for cancer and other equipment for hospital intensive care units is increasing significantly. The high demand is good for our business,' PT Philips Indonesia senior vice president Suryo Suwignjo told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday, without elaborating on the detail of the demand.
Besides BPJS Kesehatan, he said that its healthcare division had continued to post strong growth for the past few years since the public was becoming more aware of the importance of health.
'Indonesians are better educated nowadays, thus, they pay attention to their health. When they are sick, they demand precise diagnostics and this precision can only be delivered by highly qualified medical equipment,' he said.
All employers are required to enroll their workers in the BPJS Kesehatan program on Jan.1 2015 at the latest as stipulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No.111/2013 on the BPJS.
The Perpres says that the employers' premium will be taken from their monthly salary, 0.5 percent of their non-taxable income (PTKP).
Besides the healthcare division, he said that the company was optimistic that its lighting and consumer lifestyle divisions would see healthy growth throughout next year.
'The country's growing middle class and affluent consumers keep driving our businesses in Indonesia. We believe that we will still be strong in the market next year,' he added.(+++)
