anpower Minister Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri met with his counterpart from Singapore, Tan Chuan Jin, in Jakarta on Thursday to better enhance collaboration between the two countries in protecting Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore.

'€œThe protection of our workers in Singapore is relatively good. But with the help of Mr. Tan Chuan Jin, I want the Singaporean government to better protect our workers,'€ Hanif said on the sidelines of the meeting.

According to the ministry data, there are 23,437 Indonesians working in Singapore currently, with 19,442 of them working in the informal sector.

'€œWe also want to enhance our manpower cooperation, particularly how Singapore can help us improve the quality of Indonesians who want to become migrant workers,'€ he said.

In addition, he said that both nations agreed to develop collaborations in occupational health and safety (OHS) to provide better safety protection for workers.

'€œWe are going to send our OHS inspectors to Singapore so that they can learn from Singapore how to improve safety precautions in the work environment,'€ he said.

Singapore Ambassador to Indonesia, Anil Kumar Naya, and deputy chief of mission and minister counselor Gerard Ho were among the Singapore delegation that met Hanif on Thursday.(+++)
