How the Dow Jones industrial average did Wednesday

ajor U.S. stock indexes climbed back to record levels on Wednesday as investors assessed the latest reports on the economy. Semiconductor stocks rose after a strong earnings report from Analog Devices.

The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index closed at all-time highs. U.S. markets will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving. They will reopen for an abbreviation session on Friday, when trading will close at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Wednesday:

The Dow rose 12.81 points, or 0.07 percent, to 17,827.75.

The S&P 500 index gained 5.80 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,072.83.

The Nasdaq composite rose 29.07 points, or 0.6 percent, to 4,787.32.

For the week:

The Dow is up 17.69 points, or 0.1 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 9.33 points, or 0.5 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 74.35 points, or 1.6 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,251.09 points, or 7.6 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 224.47 points, or 12.1 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 610.73 points, or 14.6 percent. (***)
