With Surya Paloh, NasDem chairman, as a supporter, the appointment of HM Prasetyo as attorney general is clearly based on transactional politics.
As it is the President's prerogative to appoint the attorney general, he has no obligation to publicly justify his choice. Whether Prasetyo is able to perform according to the prevailing anticorruption spirit has yet to be seen. Let this 67-year-old appointee prove his worth.

An attorney general must not have a questionable track record. It is obvious that Prasetyo could be influenced by political considerations if not money. Is that the very reason for the appointment?

The good thing is that he has been out of the questionable AGO system for eight years. This would theoretically mean that he is more objective than any people in it that could have been appointed.

The choice of Prasetyo with his 'elegant' mustache and his bad career record as attorney general is very, very questionable.

I too am against Jokowi for his choice of attorney general just like I still want a law enacted to prevent people who are convicts from holding public positions.
