n orders from President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi has issued a circular banning government officials from throwing lavish parties or partaking in other wasteful spending activities.
'Starting Jan. 1, 2015, no government official will be allowed to hold parties with more than 400 guests,' Yuddy told reporters at the State Palace on Thursday.
In the circular, Yuddy also banned such parties from taking place at expensive venues like luxurious hotels.
'Just pick a decent venue. It does not have to be a five-star hotel, as it could cause a traffic jam [...] This could give rise to social jealousy,' he said.
Yuddy, a NasDem Party politician, said that the new rule would also apply to the President and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
'If the President has a plan to hold a wedding for his daughter, for example, this rule will also apply,' Yuddy said.
The ministry has also issued an order for government agencies to serve traditional Indonesian street foods during official functions.
Traditional street foods, like steamed peanuts and fried cassava, will also be served at official state dinners. (***)
