Bank BRI operational director Sarwono said that the DKI Smart Card would function not only as a debit card, but also as an ATM card and e-ticket, among other things. Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has several times expressed his desire to establish a transparent, cashless society.
'Pak Ahok has asked us to speed up the development of the DKI Smart Card. The card will be multifunctional, which could help establish a cashless society,' Sarwono said after a meeting with the city administration at City Hall on Friday. BRI will also help the city in developing an effective online tax payment system.
Separately, Ahok said that eventually all Jakarta residents would have to possess DKI Smart Cards.
'Everyone must own a DKI Smart Card. It will not only function as a debit or ATM card, but also a KJP, a rusunawa [low-cost apartment] ID card and a PKL [street vendor] ID card. It will also be a requirement for poor residents to receive social assistance from the city. Therefore, all residents from all walks of life must own these cards,' Ahok said.
