orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators have arrested Bangkalan Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Fuad Amin Imron on allegations of accepting bribes from a private company regarding gas supplies to a region-owned enterprise.
East Java police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiono said Fuad was arrested at his residence in Bangkalan by a team of KPK detectives led by Adj. Sr. Comr. Novel Baswedan.
'He was arrested early morning Tuesday by a KPK team led by Adj. Sr. Comr. Novel Baswedan, assisted by the police's intelligence, crowd-control unit and detectives,' he said on Tuesday.
He added that Fuad showed no resistance and the whole arrest required some thirty minutes after which Fuad was rushed to Jakarta for further questioning.
Fuad has served as Bangkalan regent for two periods. He stepped down in 2013 and was succeeded by his son, Imam Buchori Machmud Fuad, who won the seat through direct election.
Fuad is the head of Gerindra Party in Bangkalan.
