he Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has repatriated more than 1,500 female migrant workers from violence-plagued Syria since early this year.
They were flown to Jakarta from where they were returned by the National Labor Placement and Protection Agency (BNP2TKI) to their hometowns, chief of the embassy's information, social and cultural function Wendi Budi Raharjo told Antara news agency in Cairo on Monday.
The embassy also facilitated remittance through Western Union and Express Money to the workers' hometowns, he said.
That way they did not have to carry cash from Beirut to their hometowns in Indonesia, he said.
"The facility is part of the embassy's efforts to help the workers following reports that they were forced by irresponsible officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport to exchange their money at lower rates," he said. (hhr)(++++)
