lag carrier Garuda Indonesia signed a code-share agreement with Bangkok Airways in Jakarta on Thursday in order to provide better flight services to passengers traveling to Thailand from Indonesia.
Garuda marketing director Erik Meijer said that the collaboration would also help strengthen Garuda's networks in Asia since Bangkok Airways flies to Dhaka, Phnom Penh and Luang Prabang, Laos.
'Thailand is clearly a market with a lot of potential for Indonesia and through this service, we are hoping to give more travel options to our customers and at the same time increase trade and tourism between the two countries,' Erik said on Thursday.
The agreement is set to take effect on Dec. 15.
In addition, Bangkok Airways senior vice president for network management Peter Wiesner said that the code-share collaboration with Garuda would create flexibility and connect Indonesian passengers who wanted to go to destinations in Thailand to which Garuda did not fly.
In Thailand, Bangkok Airways flies to the country's major destinations such as Udon Thani, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Krabi.(+++)
