UGM student apartments officiated

P

ublic Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono inaugurated on Saturday two apartment buildings for students of Gadjah Mada University, hoping that they would reduce the circulation of drugs.

Basuki said the development of the Kinanti 2 and Kinanti 3 apartments, which would accommodate 1,400 students, could prevent the expansion of slum areas that often become a focus of drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Governor Hamengkubuwono revealed that of the 320,000 students studying in Yogyakarta'€™s universities, as many as 30 percent of them, or about 90,000, came from outside the province.

'€œThe development of the apartments would make it easier for us to control narcotics trafficking,'€ Hamengkubuwono said. (***)
