he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Monday it would establish three offices at the provincial level next year in a move to expedite the prosecution of graft cases.
KPK chairman Abraham Samad said the three new offices would be opened in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
'Establishing branch offices in other regions needs a serious budget and we hope the House of Representatives will approve our budget proposal for setting up the offices,' Abraham told reporters at KPK headquarters on Monday.
He also said KPK commissioners had yet to decide on the locations of each office.
'The Sulawesi office is probably in Makassar, but I'm not sure yet about the ones in Sumatra and Kalimantan,' Abraham said.
Separately, KPK deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto said the new provincial office would focus on efforts to prevent graft.
'The reason why we chose Sumatra is because it's close to Jakarta. It's easier for us to do regular monitoring. We also want to ensure the KPK is accessible to people across the country,' Bambang said on Monday.
'We need more offices to prevent graft practices in local administrations all over the country,' added Bambang, who also pointed out that the establishment of new provincial offices would make it easier for members of local communities to report graft cases to the KPK. (***)
