Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said the government would consider a request from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to keep its remaining four leaders until the end of their tenure
abinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said the government would consider a request from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to keep its remaining four leaders until the end of their tenure.
Visiting the antigraft body's headquarters on Thursday, Andi said the remaining four KPK leaders believed that it would be better if the inauguration of a new fifth KPK leader, to replace deputy chairman Busyro Muqoddas, was held jointly with new KPK leaders who will be selected next year.
'[KPK chairman] Abraham [Samad] requested that the inauguration for the new KPK leader [from the House of Representatives] align with the inauguration of the four new leaders for the 2015-1019 period,' said Andi.
Earlier, the KPK sent a formal request to former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to postpone replacing Busyro, who ends his term this month.
Yudhoyono rejected the request and proceeded with the selection, which has resulted in two final candidates, the incumbent Busyro who applied for a second term, and Roby Arya Brata, former Cabinet Secretariat staff member.
The House has held the final interview for the candidates but has yet to come up with a decision.
As the remaining KPK leaders, including Abraham, will end their tenure in 2015, the government will have to hold another selection process next year.
Andi said the Law and Human Rights Ministry was scheduled to form a new selection committee in April or May. (***)
