On Wednesday:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 421.28 points, or 2.4 percent, to 17,778.15.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed 48.34 points, or 2.4 percent, to 2,061.23.
The Nasdaq composite gained 104.48 points, or 2.2 percent, to 4,748.40.
For the week:
The Dow is up 497.32 points, or 2.9 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 58.90 points, or 2.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 94.80 points, or 2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,201.49 points, or 7.3 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 212.87 points, or 11.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 571.81 points, or 13.7 percent. (***)
