How the Dow Jones industrial average did Thursday

T

he Dow Jones industrial average had its biggest day in three years, soaring more than 400 points as the stock market extended a rally into a second day.

On Wednesday:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 421.28 points, or 2.4 percent, to 17,778.15.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index climbed 48.34 points, or 2.4 percent, to 2,061.23.

The Nasdaq composite gained 104.48 points, or 2.2 percent, to 4,748.40.

For the week:

The Dow is up 497.32 points, or 2.9 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 58.90 points, or 2.9 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 94.80 points, or 2 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,201.49 points, or 7.3 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 212.87 points, or 11.5 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 571.81 points, or 13.7 percent. (***)
