National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will open direct flights between Manado and Denpasar in February 2015, an official has said.
'We plan to commence direct Manado-Denpasar flights at the end of February 2015,' Manado-branch Garuda Indonesia general manager Dedy Irawan said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Monday.
He added that planes to be operated on the new route had been prepared and were currently in the concluding stage of preparation.
'The potential number of passengers travelling to Denpasar, Bali, from Manado, North Sulawesi, is pretty massive, so the opening of a direct route between Manado and Denpasar will benefit both provinces,' said Dedy.
He said North Sulawesi's economy had grown at a rapid pace, far exceeding the national growth average. This had led to increases in people's demand to travel to Bali, allowing the airline to continue to expand its service in the region.
Dedy went on to say that the opening of the new Manado-Denpasar route would create a lot positive effects, including boosting tourism in Manado and North Sulawesi overall, as it would be now easier for people in Bali to travel to the province.
Apart from expanding its flight routes, Dedy said Garuda Indonesia was continuing to improve the quality of its services during preflight, inflight and postflight activities.
'This is so that Garuda Indonesia will have a better image and is able to become a highly competitive flight operator in the future,' said Dedy. (ebf)(++++)
