The city's Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has begun a crackdown on the illegal distribution of oplosan (bootleg liquor).
Head of the agency Kukuh Hadi Santoso said raids had been conducted for a week as ordered by Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama. The raids, he said, were a response to the widespread distribution of bootleg liquor, which has led to several deaths.
'Satpol PP and the police started the raids last week. The governor has instructed us to take action against bootleg-liquor distribution,' he said as quoted by kompas.com on Saturday.
The provincial agency and other sub agencies across the capital city confiscated 3,000 bottles of oplosan during the operation. The officers targeted illegal vendors who had no permit from the Trade Ministry. Some of the seized liquor had been mixed with dangerous substances.
Kukuh said he was still waiting for a court order to destroy the confiscated products. (***)
