n preparation for an influx of year-end travelers, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng has prepared Christmas and New Year service posts to anticipate problems arising from an increased number of passengers.
The main Christmas and New Year service post is located near Terminal I, where most domestic flights depart and arrive, in addition to smaller service posts at each of the three terminals.
'We also have recruited interns to act as 36 [service officers] who will ride roller blades to assist passengers,' Yudis Tiawan, airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II's public relations manager, said on Monday.
Yudis said there would be 174 extra flights from Dec. 19 to Jan. 5.
The airlines adding flights include Sriwijaya Air (70 flights), Citilink (49 flights), Air Asia (31 flights), Garuda Indonesia (16 flights) and China Air (eight flights).
Yudis said the favorite destinations at year-end were Surabaya, Denpasar, Medan, Balikpapan, Yogyakarta, Padang, Jambi, Pontianak and Batam.
Mersi, who is serving as one of the service officers, said that she was happy to do the job but she did not like dealing with people who smoked in non-smoking areas because most of them resisted her request, although they eventually relented. (***)
