How the Dow Jones industrial average did Monday

tocks returned to record territory on Monday as the market delivered its fourth gain in as many trading days. The Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor's 500 index each notched record highs. The market was building on a big gain last week.

On Monday:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 154.64 points, or 0.9 percent, to 17,959.44.

The Standard & Poor's 500 gained 7.89 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,078.54.

The Nasdaq composite added 16.04 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,781.42.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,382.78 points, or 8.3 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 230.18 points, or 12.45 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 604.83 points, or 14.5 percent. (***)
