convenience shop on Jl. Arief Rate in Makassar was robbed by six people on motorbikes early on Monday. Two of them entered the shop, opened around the clock, while pointing arrows and swords at the employees.
'Two of them immediately entered the shop and pointed an arrow at my face. He also carried a samurai sword. The distance was very close. I couldn't fight and ran inside to save my life,' said shopkeeper Wandi, 21, who was working the night shift.
He said he did not recognize the attacker as he wore a mask.
The robbers smashed the glass door and took cash from the cash register worth more than Rp 1 million (US$80).
Makassar City Police chief Sr. Comr. Fery Abraham said convenience shop theft cases had risen since December. As of Monday, 10 cases had been reported, compared with only three cases in November. (***)
