search and rescue team (SAR) in Palu city, Central Sulawesi, is continuing the search for a resident of Tondo village, Donggala regency, who went missing after being swept away by swift river currents following torrential rain on Jan. 9.
Palu SAR Operations Division head George Mercy Randang identified the missing resident as Ibram. According to information from residents, Ibram was crossing the river in the village when a flash flood suddenly arrived and swept him away.
The SAR team mobilized six personnel and a motorized inflatable dinghy, but as of Monday morning, the victim had not been found.
'We are focusing the search on the sea, because we strongly believe the victim was swept by the river currents out to sea,' said Randang.
He said the incident scene was located in the river delta, only around 100 meters from the coast.
