ormer Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar appeared in court on Thursday to testify in the graft trial of Palembang, South Sumatra mayor Romi Herton, who has been indicted for bribery.
The Corruption Erradication Commission (KPK) named Romi and his wife, Masyitoh, suspects for allegedly bribing the disgrace former chief justice in 2013.
In addition to the corruption charges, Romi and Masyitoh have been charged with perjury, as stipulated in Article 22 of the 2001 Corruption Law, for giving false testimony during Akil's trial in May.
'Today I give my testimony for Muhtar Ependy and the Palembang Mayor,' Akil said, referring to another defendant in a perjury case.
In June last year, the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Akil to life in prison for accepting billions of rupiah in bribes from regional officials, including Romi. (***)
