Nigerian Namaona Denis, one of five drug traffickers executed by firing squad at Nusakambangan prison, Cilacap regency, Central Java, early on Sunday, was laid in rest in the prison's cemetery during a burial ceremony held according to his religion, an official said.
'It was only Denis who was laid to rest in Nusakambangan, while the bodies of the four other convicts are to be buried elsewhere according to their respective religions,' Cilacap Police precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ulung Sampurna Jaya told journalists after attending the executions.
At around 4 a.m. local time, ambulances bringing the bodies of the four executed inmates arrived at Wijayapura port in Cilacap after leaving the Nusakambangan prison using the prison's motor vessel, the KM Pengayoman. They were Ang King Soei aka Tomy Wijaya (who was Dutch), Daniel Enemuo (Nigerian), Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira (Brazilian) and Rani Andriani aka Melisa Aprilia (Indonesian). Meanwhile, another inmate, Tran Thi Bich Hanh of Vietnam, was executed in Boyolali, Central Java.
Ulung said two of the bodies, of Ang and Moreira, would be cremated at the Kalibagor crematorium in Banyumas, while the remaining two bodies, of Enemuo and Rani, were to be taken home to Jakarta and Cianjur, respectively, based on the requests of their families. All family members of Ang and Moreira attended their cremations, he added.
'Their bodies arrived at the crematorium at around 5 a.m. and were taken to the Giri Laya funeral home in Kaliori village, Kalibagor district, Banyumas, before being cremated,' he said, adding that the executions, conducted by the five-member Mobile Brigade firing squad under the supervision of religious leaders, ran smoothly.
