President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's pick for the position of National Police chief, Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, has launched his first salvo in what many see as a repeat of the 'gecko vs crocodile' standoffs that pitted the police against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
On Wednesday, the lawyers of Budi, whose inauguration as National Police chief has been postponed by Jokowi, filed a report with the Attorney General's Office (AGO) on the KPK's leadership, for what Budi called 'an abuse of power' in naming him a graft suspect at the 11th hour before his expected inauguration as the new National Police chief.
Your comments:
Threatening to take the KPK to the corrupt AGO just shows that he is a bully trying to strong-arm people. If Jokowi stood behind the KPK, he could achieve wonders and he could count on a lot of support from the people. Let's hope he doesn't sell out to the establishment in the way that former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono did. It will cost him his legacy if he does.

It seems the only reason he is making these moves is because he feels strong with the backing of the President, Megawati Soekarnoputri and the government. Will this be enough? Are they above and beyond the reproach of the law?

He is such an arrogant person even before becoming the police chief; exerting and showing his power. Can you imagine if he had made it as police chief?
