rosecutors at the Pekanbaru Corruption Court in Riau demanded on Wednesday that a nine-year prison sentence be handed to Pelalawan Deputy Regent Marwan Ibrahim for corruption in the procurement of land for the Bhakti Praja regency administration office project in Pangkalan Kerinci, causing Rp 38 billion (US$3 million) in state losses.
Prosecutor Romy Rozali insisted Marwan was guilty.
'The defendant enriching himself or others caused state losses, so we demand that the panel of judges sentence him to nine years and fine him Rp 500 million or let him face another six months in jail,' said Romy.
Prosecutors also demanded Marwan return Rp 1.5 billion to the state or face another five years in prison.
'The returned funds will be returned to state coffers to replace the state losses embezzled by the defendant,' said Romy.
Marwan stands accused of collectively committing corruption in plotting with other people to arrange for the Pelalawan regency administration to pay for the land a second time. (***)
