ublicly listed industrial estate developer PT Kawasan Industri Jababeka (KIJA) says that it is committed to work with the government and strategic partners to develop a number of Special Economic Zones (KEK) in the tourism sector.
'We plan to create a modern city concept in each province in Indonesia in order to create more job opportunities for the people and accommodate the demand for better living,' KIJA president director Setyono Djuandi Darmono said in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Darmono said that one of the KEK projects currently being developed by the company is Tanjung Lesung in Pandeglang regency, Banten, west of Jakarta.
'By developing the tourism infrastructure, we will be seeing more infrastructure in other sectors in this area,' he said.
Besides Tanjung Lesung, Jababeka is teaming up with Singapore-based Semcorp to further develop Kendal, Central Java.
'We are going to enter regions with limited investment growth because we want to help reduce social and economic inequality in Indonesia. We want to help create the growing middle class in this country,' he explained.
In addition, corporate secretary Muljadi Suganda said the firm has allotted Rp 735 billion (US$58.06 million) for investment this year to expand its businesses. (nfo)(+++)
