eputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Fahri Hamzah said that the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) would no longer be given space to operate from the DPR building and had to relocate to the nearby Youth and Sports Ministry office.
Fahri said that the proposal to relocate the ministry's office came from the DPD secretariat itself.
The outspoken Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician said that the House did not have enough funding to construct a new building for the DPD.
'We have no budget and they have to relocate,' Fahri said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi said he had learned about the plan to use his office as the new headquarters for the DPD.
Imam said that he would not oppose the plan if materialized.
The DPD has been struggling to attain stronger legislative powers in recent years. The DPD argued that the amended 1945 Constitution had adopted the bicameral parliamentary system but that the DPD had not been given equal legislative rights to help promote aspirations from the outer regions.
