Officials who smoke at work to be demoted

T

he city administration will punish civil servants who are caught smoking in their offices, which violates Bylaw No. 2/2005 on pollution control.

Despite the placement of banners on the smoking ban in municipal and agency offices across Jakarta, many civil servants still continue to smoke in their offices and within the office complex.

Lasro Marbun of the Jakarta Inspectorate said the city would first send them three warning letters.

'€œIf they are caught a fourth time they will be demoted because the regulations are clear. As the inspectorate head, I have the right to supervise and do my job,'€ Lasro said at City Hall on Friday.
