cache of weapons and ammunition was found by a fisherman on the banks of the Siak River, the police have reported, adding that an investigation has been started.
Pekanbaru Police chief Sr. Comr. Robert Hariyanto Watratan said the cache contained five FN pistols, six revolvers, two German-made FB Record pistols, an Airsoft gun, 28 rounds of ammunition in a variety of calibers and seven detonators.
'Most of the guns were rusted and incomplete, but the bullets were usable. We're storing them at the Pekanbaru Port Police,' Robert said. The weapons were found inside a plastic sack.
The police chief said they could not ascertain whether the cache was related to the increasing number of armed robberies in Pekanbaru recently.
'We're still investigating the case. Detectives have been deployed to the location,' Robert said.
The fisherman, named locally as Anton, 45, discovered the cache while fishing on the river on Saturday afternoon. He found the sack hidden in a bush and took it home before reporting his find to the police on Sunday. (***)
