Prominent contemporary artist Heri Dono has been chosen to represent Indonesia at the 56th Venice Biennale, which starts on May 9.
'Because of technical and timing issues, we chose Heri Dono,' said Restu Kusumaningrum, an official responsible for Indonesian delegation for the event, said, as quoted by tempo.co.
Restu admitted that she was late in registering Indonesia for the event in October. 'It was during government's transition at that time, so it was a tricky.'
Heri was selected for his skill and global reputation, Restu said.
The artist will display a statue, installation and video works under the theme of 'Trokomod'.
