NTT community to hold event at TMII

T

he Ngada community of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), will hold a second customary celebration titled '€œReba'€, at East Nusa Tenggara house in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, on Feb. 14.

A representative of the Ngada community in Jakarta, Siprianus Bate Soro, said the celebration was a symbol of the life and identity of the Ngada community and was expected to strengthen bonds between Ngada people who lived in Jakarta and their cultural roots.

'€œThe '€˜Reba'€™ ritual is celebrated by all tribes or groups of people in Ngada. We will perform a tradition from the Golewa subethnic group, one of the ethnic groups located in the central part of Ngada,'€ he said in a statement as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.

Besides traditional dances, songs, games and poems, Saturday'€™s event will feature a sacred ritual that describes the beginnings of the Ngada people, their beliefs and values. Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama and NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya are expected to attend the event.

The community also held a cultural discussion at Kolese Kanisius high school in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday. (***)
