eventy-one female Indonesian migrant workers (locally called TKW) have been repatriated from conflict-ridden Syria, a diplomat said on Friday.
The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut's head of information and sociocultural affairs, Wendi Budi Raharjo, said that the workers arrived safely in Beirut on Thursday night after taking alternative roads to avoid blockades caused by bad weather.
"They are the first batch to arrive in Beirut in 2015," Wendi told the Antara news agency in Cairo, adding that the convoy of two buses had to avoid a fierce storm that was lashing Lebanon since Wednesday.
The embassy temporarily accommodated the TKWs in a shelter, pending the procurement of plane tickets to Indonesia from the Foreign Ministry, Wendi said. (+++++)
