he sharia insurance unit (UUS) of PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Jasindo) is aiming to be the country's market leader in sharia services.
Toward that end, the company will launch a haj insurance savings program later this year. To support businesses, UUS Jasindo is working together with the UUS of North Sumatra's regional development bank (BPD Sumut).
Jasindo's director of operations for retail insurance, Sahata L. Tobing, said that demand for travel protection was rising together with the growth of the Indonesian middle-income bracket.
The company wants its UUS division to become a market leader so that it can launch more religious pilgrimage-related insurance products, such as for people visiting the grave of Wali Songo.
'We want the UUS to become a model for sharia insurance. So we are working together with the UUS. Right now, the haj insurance savings program is still being processed by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for its permit. We hope that we can launch this product by the fourth quarter of 2015,' Sahata said.
