Media darling: Journalists crowd around then president-elect Joko âJokowiâ Widodo on Aug
span class="inline inline-center">
Your comments on the disappointment of senior press figures in President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, who used to be a media darling, as the President missed an annual ceremony commemorating National Press Day:
It is funny. This is probably just another example of a 'one-sided love story'.
The press reported all sorts of goodness on Jokowi, and those 'senior press figures' hoped that Jokowi would care about them (and would come to their National Press Day ceremony).
Those senior press figures should remember that Jokowi now is the President. Jokowi has to take care of all Indonesian citizens, not just the press.

Indeed Jokowi has never been for himself. His selflessness has indeed catapulted him to become the leader of Indonesia, where people have not had a leader willing to sacrifice as much as he does.
Being naturally selfless, President Jokowi easily makes proper decisions, which are easily misunderstood by most.
Only selfless leaders have the courage to eradicate our century-old corruption. Our leaders were easily corrupted, making most Indonesian people use cigarettes, reducing their health unnecessarily, when tobacco products in many other countries are very much limited.
With children (and even babies) affected by cigarette habits, who would be courageous to say 'No' to cigarettes?!
Jokowi's selflessness is expected to end the tobacco culture in Indonesia; which thus far has been perceived as a saving grace for tobacco growers.
Only clean hands like those of Jokowi will let go of tobacco to forgo ill health to proceed toward our benighted wealth.

I honestly believe Mr. Jokowi has more important things to do than to attend a ceremony for National Press Day.
With the Indonesian Democratic party of Struggle (PDI-P) threatening him, the Red-and-White Coalition against him, the KPK and National Police warring factions, it's not relevant that he attend a function of the press, who will ultimately 'slam' him and his policies anyway.
I can only hope and pray that Mr. Jokowi starts doing something to make this country better for Indonesians and globally, starting with corruption, revamping the police, infrastructure, death penalty review and economic growth. There really hasn't been much news of any 'good' things that have happened under his administration yet, except maybe illegal fishing and education.

One of Jokowi's mistakes was that he hesitated in backing the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Indonesia polity is stepping deeper into the twilight zone.

He should have been since the beginning. He is just lucky that he was once a media darling.
