Jakarta Governor Basuki âAhokâ Tjahaja Purnama has officially reported alleged markups in the draft of Jakartaâs 2015 city budget to the Corruption Eradication Commission
akarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has officially reported alleged markups in the draft of Jakarta's 2015 city budget to the Corruption Eradication Commission.
'We want to report our findings on markups in the draft 2015 city budget,' he said upon his arrival at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Friday afternoon.
He said that he had brought along relevant documents that could be used as evidence to prove the alleged markups. Ahok, who was accompanied by provincial government secretary Saefullah, said the documents were on a number of proposed expenditures that went against the general budgeting policy.
'We are bringing all this as evidence. It has all been signed by the City Council. What we have here goes beyond the budget we signed. This is convincing evidence,' he said.
Before reporting to the KPK, Ahok met President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo at the State Palace to share his experience in connection with his spat with the City Council.
All 106 members of the City Council agreed on Thursday to set up a special committee to exercise the right of inquiry into what they called a serious violation of the 2014 Legislative Institutions Law and the 2004 Regional Administration Law when the governor rejected the draft budget proposed by the council.
Ahok accused the City Council of wasting taxpayers' money by inserting a number of programs worth Rp 12.1 trillion (US$98 million) into the city's budget without the city government's knowledge.
He said he was ready to be impeached if he was found guilty of violating the law, but he said he would not use the budget that contained questionable programs worth Rp 12.1 trillion.
Acting deputy KPK chairman Johan Budi previously said that the commission would follow up if Ahok officially reported the alleged markups to the commission. (rms)
