T

he annual Sail Indonesia event will be held in Tomini, Central Sulawesi, in 2015 in an effort to accelerate economic growth and develop marine tourism destinations in Indonesia.

Bank Indonesia'€™s Central Sulawesi head Purjoko said that the Sail Tomini 2015 would benefit the province in many ways, especially in its tourism and hospitality industry, Antara news agency reported on Friday.

He said that the number of domestic and international tourists to the province rose by 10.53 percent during the fourth quarter of the year compared to the same quarter in the previous year.

The sail, which will be held in September this year, is expected to help increase the number of travelers to the province at the end of the third quarter of 2015.

In addition, Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola said that the sailing event would not only benefit the province in terms of its tourism sector but also strengthen its position as a safe and conducive province.

Longki said that he has encouraged the locals to help support the event by maintaining the cleanliness, beauty and security of the province so that the Sail Tomini 2015 will run successfully.

Since 2009, Indonesia has been conducting sail events to spur infrastructure development and better promote new tourist destinations, such as Sail Bunaken in North Sulawesi, Sail Banda in Maluku, Sail Komodo in East Nusa Tenggara and Sail Raja Ampat in West Papua. (nfo)(+++)
