span style="letter-spacing: -0.1px;">Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has requested that the court mediate in an ongoing water privatization trial involving the city administration and city-owned water operator PD PAM Jaya.
The Coalition of Jakarta Residents Opposing Water Privatization (KMMSAJ) filed a lawsuit in November 2012 and demanded that the court annul a cooperation agreement between PAM Jaya and two private firms ' PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) and PT Aetra Air Jakarta (Aetra).
The group claimed the cooperation failed to guarantee an adequate supply of clean potable water in Jakarta. According to the coalition, the cooperation agreement terms had also triggered Rp 1.7 trillion in state losses through fees that PAM Jaya paid both companies.
'We will go through mediation with the coalition so the judge can lawfully establish our rights and duties, and PAM Jaya will acquire Palyja,' Ahok told reporters at City Hall in Central Jakarta recently after attending a discussion with the KMMSAJ and PAM Jaya.
He said the acquisition would take place in July at the latest. Ahok went on to say that if the acquisition proved to be successful and beneficial for all parties, the city would also prepare PAM Jaya to acquire Aetra.
Meanwhile, PAM Jaya president director Sriwidyanto Kaderi said the firm was ready to complete the task and would quickly get to work.
Previously, PAM Jaya asked for an out-of-court settlement with KMMSAJ.
