The Rp 12 billion (US$931,821) mosque was built by developer PT Jakarta Land to fulfill its obligation to develop social and public facilities. Ahok said all developers must follow suit and fulfill their obligation to develop social and public facilities at their developments as regulated in a gubernatorial decree issued in 1990.
'All developers must fulfill their obligations as well, whether in the form of a mosque or rusunawa [low-cost apartments] or others,' he said at the event.
Ahok said many developers had failed to fulfill their obligation. 'If all developers followed the rule and built at least one rusunawa, we would have enough for all evicted residents,' he said.
The mosque was built on a 1,336-square-meter plot of land and designed by architecture firm Aedas International as well as Anggara & Consortium.
