Central Sulawesi prosecutor's office has named nine suspects, including former governor and current Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Aminuddin Ponulele in a swimming pool-construction corruption case in Palu, which has cost Rp 505.69 billion (US$38.9 million) in state losses.
Among the other suspects are lawmaker Muhidin M. Said, former DPRD speaker Murad U Nasir, former deputy speaker Helmi D Yambas, and former public works agency head Mashud Kasim.
The office's spokesman Eki Mohamad Kasim said the construction fund was earmarked from the provincial budget from 2004 to 2006 with the work awarded to construction company PT Bhakti Baru Rediapratama.
'An audit by the Development Finance Comptroller [BPKP] found that the contract was awarded through only an MoU [memorandum of understanding], which violates a presidential decree,' Eki said.
