12-kg LPG canister price increased by Rp 5,000

S

tate oil and gas company Pertamina said that it increased the price of non-subsidized 12-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters by Rp 5,000 (38 US cents) per canister starting from Sunday.

Pertamina marketing director Ahmad Bambang said the 12-kg LPG canisters were selling at Rp 134,000 per canister, up from Rp 129,000 on Jan. 19.

'€œThe price of the 12-kg LPG canisters has returned to the price that took effect on Jan. 1,'€ he said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Sunday.

Ahmad said Pertamina'€™s decision to increase the price of the non-subsidized 12-kg LPG canisters was based on increases in the commodity'€™s market price, which was set based on the Saudi Aramco contract price.

On Jan. 19, the government decided to lower the 12-kg LPG canister price by Rp 5,700 per canister, or Rp 475 per kilogram, to Rp 134,700 from Rp 129,000.

'€œConcerning the increase in the LPG price in the international market, we decided to again increase the 12-kg LPG canister price starting from March 1,'€ said Bambang, adding that the global LPG price increased following a jump in the global oil price recently.

Starting from Jan. 1, Pertamina'€™s periodic evaluation of the non-subsidized 12-kg LPG price depends on fluctuations in both the Aramco contract price and the rupiah exchange rate.

The government also increased the price of Premium fuel by Rp 200 per liter in areas outside Java and Bali starting from Sunday. The price hike is due to increases in the Premium price at the Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) throughout 2015.

The price of Premium outside Java and Bali, which was set at Rp 6,600 per liter as of Feb. 1, increased to Rp 6,800 per liter starting from Sunday. Meanwhile, it was decided that the prices of two other fuels, namely subsidized diesel and kerosene, would stay at Rp 6,400 and Rp 2,500 per liter, respectively.

Pertamina also set the price of non-subsidized Premium in Java and Bali at Rp 6,900 per liter as of Sunday, up from Rp 6,700.

Based on Presidential Regulation No. 191/2014, Premium is no longer a subsidized commodity, while diesel and kerosene remain subsidized goods, the prices of which are set by the government. (ebf)(++++)
