o position East Java regency as a new cultural and tourist hub, the Banyuwangi administration has launched the 2015 Banyuwangi Festival, which puts the regency's many charms on display.
Speaking at the festival's opening over the weekend in Jakarta, Banyuwangi Regent Abdulllah Azwar Anas said the festival would consist of 38 different events, including the International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen (May 6-9), Beach Jazz Festival (Sept. 12), International Surfing Competition (Sept. 25-27), Gandrung Sewu Festival (Sept. 26), Banyuwangi Batik Festival (Oct. 10) and Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival (Oct. 20).
'The Banyuwangi Festival is held to promote tourism, maximize regency potential and motivate residents to develop the regency together,' Azwar said as quoted by Antara news agency.
Some could become regular tourist attractions, such as Green and Recycle Fashion Week (March 14), Local Fruit Festival (March 28), Sego Tempong Culinary Festival (March 28), Children's Traditional Games Festival (June 15), Banyuwangi Kite Festival (Aug. 15), Percussion and Lare-lare Orchestra Festival (Aug. 1) and Kite and Wind Surf Competition (Aug. 23).
