Greater Jakarta: W. Jakarta demolishes 50 illegal buildings

T

he West Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Agency has dismantled around 70 percent of illegal buildings on a vacant section of land in Tegal Alur cemetery in West Jakarta. The area has been earmarked to receive the landfill from the construction of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project.

'€œWe have dismantled 50 buildings. We will work on the remaining constructions soon. This cemetery has to be free from illegal buildings,'€ agency head Hasni said as quoted by beritajakarta.com on Monday.

He said he was still coordinating with other institutions to demolish the remaining buildings, which were being used as housing, food stalls and florist shops.

'€œWe have notified the residents about this plan, so they can dismantle their buildings by themselves,'€ he said.
