'Gadgets for life and not life for gadgets' seems to be the basic principle of radio DJ Andira Pramanta when it comes to technology.
Andira, who labels himself as a creative worker, uses gadgets mainly to support his work and make his life easier and healthier. Therefore, his choice of technology is limited to tools that have a purpose to improve the quality of his life and work.
One of his gadgets is a physical activity tracker that he uses to assist him in exercise.
'It reminds me to keep moving, especially for walking,' the man, who also likes running and biking, told The Jakarta Post recently.
Andira is a radio announcer working for Hard Rock FM Jakarta, running The Office: Alternative Rock Show in the afternoons and also designing books for people such as motivational speaker René Suhardono, entrepreneur Yoris Sebastian and financial planner Ligwina Hananto.
Even though he relies on gadgets mostly as tools to support work, he is trying to reduce the sheer amount of his online interaction in the virtual forum, preferring more quality face-to-face personal communication, Andira says.
'I want to repair the quality of offline relationships in today's society,' he adds. 'Don't create too many accounts in social media. The more you have, the less you feel. If you want to find refreshment, don't find it in your gadget. Go analog. Read books.'
These below are three gadgets that Andira uses in his daily life and work.
iPhone 6
He said that he chose the iPhone mostly for practical reasons. 'It is easier for data transfers, because I use other Apple products at home and the camera is good. I also use the iPhone to promote my work via Twitter.'
Fitbit flex
'I use it as a pedometer and to detect my activity as well as to measure my sleep quality,' Andira says, choosing the brand since other reviews claimed it was the most resilient for sports.
Panasonic Lumix GF-1
Andira said he chose the Lumix GF-1 because the product was the first mirrorless camera that could be used with interchangeable lenses. 'It's good and its shape is compact and simple, easy to carry,' he said. He uses the camera to take photos and record video for his website, saveastv.com, which he runs with Shani Budi Pandita to promote local musicians and review new gadgets.
