olice in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, have arrested a couple identified only as ST, 46 and R, 36, for dumping the body of their baby in a trash bin on Jl. DI Panjaitan in Jatinegara.
Jatinegara Police chief Comr. Dasril said that according to the testimony from ST and R, the baby was stillborn. He said the couple put the body of the baby in the trash bin because they could not afford a funeral.
'The wife gave birth to a dead baby. She said she put the baby in a cardboard box and put it in the trash bin,' he said on Wednesday, adding that the baby was born on Feb. 27.
Two days later, the couple said they returned to the garbage dump area where they put the baby. According to the husband, R, he set fire to the garbage to repel mosquitoes and accidentally burned the baby's body.
The baby was found by local residents who were disturbed by a foul smell on Monday. The body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) for investigation.
