President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo reminded the leaders of the National Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) on Tuesday about their roles in ensuring national security, a situation that would support the pursuit of the country'€™s economic development goals.

Jokowi made the remarks in a speech during the opening session of the annual meeting of police and military leaders in Jakarta.

Your comments:

The security of the country is worsening after the change of administration. The government is not working harmoniously nor focusing on more pressing issues like security, food prices and economic growth. First help the people live and eat, then work on a couple of barriers at a time. It is still lacking the real experience of running a government. The worst is yet to come.

The basic problem is that Jokowi does not yet know or understand that Indonesia is not a democracy. The government is in fact a shield for the '€œpolitical elite'€.  The country is actually run by a handful of '€œpolitical elite'€, and although they seem to be competitive, in reality they are all '€œcorrupt'€ associates, allied in every way. It is their word that is law and they provide what the '€œpuppets'€ need, '€œfunding'€.  The result is a thoroughly corrupt country, controlled by them while the ordinary citizens are enraged, but have no effective power to reform and improve the country.

Your speaking to the National Police and TNI is a '€œshow'€, however, their true masters are the '€œpolitical elite'€, who are known to be extremely corrupt and self-centered, with not an inkling of concern for the masses.

What a president! Great job, Joko! Keep it up! You make this country proud! Hopefully next you remind governors to govern their cities, businessmen to run their businesses, taxmen to collect their taxes and garbage men to pick up your garbage.

Yuchan

Spouting inanities, he should have warned them to shed away immediately corrupt practices endemic in the two services, on threat of a revamped Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) knocking on their doors. Yes, the military too, because he would be introducing a new law enabling the KPK to investigate the military as well.

Ah well, no harm to daydream, maybe in a thousand years there'€™ll be a president who will do just that.
