Daniel Bahari, a former boxer who turned to coaching and promoting, died on Monday morning from cardiac arrest.
"Pino Bahari told me at 8 a.m. that Daniel had passed away following a heart attack," a spokesman from the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) said in Jakarta as quoted by Antara news agency, referring to Daniel's oldest son.
He added that Daniel, who was 66, had been suffering from heart disease for the past five years.
Daniel suffered the cardiac arrest at his house in Denpasar and his remains are being interned at a mourning house on Jl. Cargo. He will be buried on Thursday.
Born on March 23, 1948, Daniel was known for training his sons -- Pino, Nemo, Dauddy and Champ ' to respectable levels, as well as his work with a number of other top Indonesian boxers.
Pino won the gold medal at the Beijing 1990 Asian Games and is now following in his father's steps as a promoter.
Nemo won silver medal at the 1995 amateur boxing championship in Kazakhstan, while Dauddy was the Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) junior welterweight champion in 2003-2007.
Champ died at the age of 21 in June 2002 from a lung problem.
Daniel was known for his efforts to stage the Indosiar Professional Boxing Match (GTPI) on a private TV channel. (nvn)(+++)
