he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday grilled former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin regarding irregularities surrounding the Rp 16 billion (US$1.2 million) procurement of health facilities at Udayana University in Bali.
Nazaruddin, who has been convicted in another graft case, was dragged into the case after the KPK named his confidant, Marisi Matondang, a suspect in the case.
Marisi is the director of PT Mahkota Negara, a subsidiary of PT Permai Group, which is owned by Nazaruddin. PT Mahkota Negara was the company that won the procurement rights for the medical facilities project.
'He [Nazar] was questioned as a witness in the case,' KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha told reporters at KPK headquarters on Tuesday.
The KPK has also named Udayana public administration and financial division head Made Meregawa a suspect in the case.
The hospital, managed by the Udayana University Medical School, is used by young doctors for research.
Priharsa said Marisi and Made's actions had caused Rp 7 billion in state losses, adding that for the moment Nazaruddin remained a witness.
Earlier, the KPK has also questioned two other Nazaruddin associates; Oktarina Furi and Clara Maureen.
Nazaruddin was sentenced to four years and 10 months in jail on Friday for accepting Rp 4.6 billion linked to the construction of the SEA Games athletes' village in South Sumatra.
