The camp of Aburizal 'Ical' Bakrie has paved the way for his rival, Agung Laksono, to take full of control the Golkar Party, while President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will soon sign a presidential regulation to legalize Agung's leadership over the country's second-largest faction at the House of Representatives.
Golkar lawyer Yusril Ihza Mahendra acknowledged that Aburizal had instructed him to drop the lawsuit against Agung at the West Jakarta District Court, despite Aburizal's repeated statements that he would never give up the party post to Agung. The lawsuit was registered on March 5.
'It's true, it [the lawsuit] was withdrawn yesterday,' the former law and human rights minister told Tempo on Tuesday. He did not elaborate on the reason behind Aburizal's surprising decision.
Your comments:
Ical now realizes that he made the biggest error of his political career ' his staging of an 'acclamation' in Bali was a failed move when he went against the accepted principles of democracy embedded in our Constitution.
A very expensive lesson faced by an outstanding party due to poor leadership.

I watched an interview with Ical where he said that Jokowi was the President of Indonesia until 2019.
Politics in Indonesia is weird. There are two coalitions but I am slightly confused about where Jokowi stands.
Sometimes I think the Red-and-White Coalition, of which Ical is a member, is more supportive of Jokowi than the Great Indonesian Coalition.

Golkar had more than three decades to develop the nation. For Golkar, (but of course not limited to this party) it's always been about putting personal interests above those of the country.

This is a wise move by Ical as it shows that he has realizes what's important is developing the nation and not who wins or loses.

I think the backroom deals that have put us where we are now are probably pretty hard to stomach.

I guess Bakrie is really desperate now. His camp lost the presidential election. He lost Golkar's chairmanship and many businesses have started to go bankrupt.

This is the best decision ever. There is so much news about conflict in Indonesia and it's about time for a peaceful end to one.
