woman named Atih, 38, and her 5-year-old son Fahri reportedly drowned at Polor sluice gate in the Angke River in Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Kembangan Police chief Sukatma said that according to a witness, the accident occurred at around 6 a.m., when Atih was driving a motorcycle with Fahri. The motorcycle drifted and hit an iron barrier on a bridge, causing Fahri to fall into the river.
'Atih jumped in after her son to try and save him,' he said as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.
He said the son was found dead a few hundred meters from the site of the accident at 7 a.m., but the mother was still missing, with a search and rescue team and police officers still looking for her as of Tuesday afternoon.
